A WRPL file, short for War Thunder Replay, is a proprietary data file format used by the popular free-to-play vehicular combat massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, War Thunder, developed by Gaijin Entertainment. These files do not store raw video footage of gameplay. Instead, they record a sequence of events, player inputs, game states, and other relevant data that occurred during a specific match or mission. When a WRPL file is "played back" within the War Thunder game client, the game engine reconstructs the entire battle scene, rendering the graphics and simulating the physics based on the recorded data. This allows players to review their past matches from any perspective, analyze tactics, identify mistakes, create cinematic clips, or share their gameplay experiences with others without needing to record actual video. Because they rely on the game engine for playback, WRPL files are typically only viewable with the specific version of the War Thunder client that created them or a compatible later version, as game updates can change the underlying data structures. They are an efficient way to store and share gameplay moments compared to large video files.
